CERAMIC
- PORCELAIN - STONE TILE
The
focal point of any bathroom is the tile. A stone backsplash adds
a sophistication to any kitchen. Tile can create a dramatic appearance
to any room it's placed in. It provides a surface that is among
the most durable available.
Thomas
Libucki Home Services, LLC has installed tile for many different
applications. The jobs included bathroom tiling, kitchen backsplashes,
foyers, kitchen floors, backsplashes, window sills, fireplaces,
and more. The product has the ability to instantly transform anything
into a work of beauty. Today there are so many choices along with
complimenting borders and accents.
Many
times customers supply their own tile that has been purchased at
a local home improvement store or tile places. Installation services
are provided for your purchase. Guidance is always available in
helping you choose the right size, type, and texture of tile for
your specific application.
TYPE
OF TILES - Porcelain vs Ceramic vs Stone
Ceramic
tile is made of clay mixed with minerals and water. It's processed
with heat to create a solid product. At this point it is porous
and the top of the tile is sealed. This top of the tile is the design
layer because it determines the tile's finished appearance such
as the color and texture. It is very durable and easy to clean.
It will not absorb odors or support bacteria.
The
main ingredient in porcelain tile is finely ground sand. The making
of porcelain involves using pressure and extremely high heat. This
results in a very dense product. Like ceramic tile, it is also very
durable and easy to clean. It has an extremely low water absorption
rate.
Tumbled
Stone is a stone that is placed through a tumbling process using
an abrasive grit such as silicon carbide and a lubricant such as
water. The grit coming in contact with the stone during the slow
tumbling process rounds off the corners of the stone and polishes
it, giving it the effect of age and beauty. Materials used for tumbled
stone tile are travertine, marble, granite, and limestone. There
are varying quality of tumbled stone in how it is polished and sealed.

TILE PATTERNS
Thomas
Libucki Home Services, LLC installs a variety of tiles and patterns
in various applications from a simple grid pattern to a versailles
pattern, also known as a french pattern. Depending on your pattern
chosen, your tile selection may be limited since certain patterns
require particular size tiles to be available. Certain patterns
will also require a determined grout width in order to fit properly.

Above
is a variety of available patterns for tile installations. With
some patterns, you can choose various size tiles to use. For example,
a diamond or grid pattern can use any size tile. A brick pattern
can use 10x20", 8"8", or 12"12" floor tiles
as examples. Patterns like the hopscotch and versailles require
certain size tiles and grout lines.
A
versailles, for example, uses 4 different tiles to create the pattern.
The sizes are 16x24", 16x16", 8x16", and 8x8".
The grout line is determined by the tile dimensions on patterns
such as a hopscotch so the tiles properly line up. The versailles
pattern is shown at the right in a Castellano Stone available through
American Olean series, which we carry.
